GEOG 2300: Introduction to Physical Geography

A sea of icy variability

February 16, 2022

In the arctic, where the annual average temperatures have increased more than three times as fast as the global average, the sea ice extent is declining.

The map above shows the extent sea ice in the Bering Sea on February 16, 2022, when it covered more than 846,000 square kilometers.

While the sea ice is declining, the sea water level is constantly increasing over the years which can cause tragic events on the long run. for example; Is predicted that Venice will disappear in a couple of years because of how the water level is constantly increasing.
